Introduction
Abstraction to me is a way in which an image has been taken by the photographer and has expressed themselves in terms of formal elements. Instead of looking at objects as objects look at them as shapes shadows, edges or shapes.
Formal elements
Line: a line is continuous straight or curvy mark making.
Shape: a shape is a form or condition of an object.
Texture: texture is the feel or appearance of a substance.
Pattern: a pattern is a continuous decorative design.
Form: form is the shape of something.
Colour: colour is a property possessed by an object.
Space: positive space is the place that attracts the most attention and where your focal point is. Negative space is empty areas and places that don't have an interest.

Looking at this photo I think of focus because the eye is made to focus on certain areas of the photos because you can see the way that the middle bit is the main subject and the rest of the photo is blurred out. I think this is a good example of focus because its zoomed into the middle and the rest is blurred and has no detail.
To take these images was kind of difficult because you had to get focus in lots of places and sometimes the camera doesn't focus. Something id do differently is take these photos from a better angle so you can see the picture from a different point of view. Some of the end results were really good as i looked at light and focus you can see clearly i focused on those formal elements. These photos were abstract because you don't look at these as objects, you look at them as formal elements like ; shape, line etc. I think these photographs are good because they represent most of the formal elements.
most successful.
In my opinion these where my most successful photos because they come out how i wanted them to and they capture the formal elements i focused on.
homework.
these photos represent formal elements because they show line shape and light. I think the most successful one was the one taken by the tree because it showed line, shape and colour the last unsuccessful was the photo of the sky, I thought it would turn out better and that the clouds would show more but the weather wasn't right. The thing I like about some of these photos is that I like the way these shades overlap each other and they came out good, also the way the leafs go over the shadow assembles the photos good.
homework
The formal elements in these photos are light and focus, whether they are in focus or out of focus or blurred you can see the the elements throughout the photos. I took these photos in the afternoon and as I was taking the photos I shook the camera so it turned blurry. These are abstract because they contain stuff like focus line shape light and texture. These photos struck me as strange because they seem different from. other abstract photos so at first I didn't really like them but now I like them because there different and strange. I took these photos while shaking my phone so I could try to get some blurry images. The thing that makes people wanna look at these photos is that when you look at the blurred ones you can see some sort of circle around around the imagine.
Patrick lears.
I would describe the image as out of the ordinary because the circle in the bottom right corner doesn't go with the rest of the photo as it is black and white and the circe is different. I would call this photo unorthodox because the way the picture is assembled is kind of strange. The composition of this photo is kind of weird because to have a circle is the in a corner isn't normal. In my opinion the things that seem weird about the photo is what makes the photo unique and interesting .
When I look at this photo my eye is drawn to all the shapes and the way they overlap each other. I find this unique because the background compliments the shapes and the colours suit each other. I'd composition of this photo is very random because I didn't look at where I placed the shapes but it looks kind of organised. These photos are abstract because they contain lines shape and colour.
WWW: The collage came out really well, because the composition of the shapes and pieces made it abstract looking.
EBI: It could have been better if I didn't over think where I put things, then it would have ended up even more abstract.

I like the composition of these because they are spaced and random. I took inspiration from Patrick Lears from the way he assembles his photos because the layout of his photos were strange because the way he had an isolated circle which was a different colour was abnormal but unique. I assembled them kind of randomly because I didn't really look at where I was putting them, although at first I kept overthinking on where I should place them so the key was just to not think and just be loose and random. These are abstract because they show lots of formal elements like curvy/ sharp line, shape and colour the background also has lots of different textures that match the image as a whole.
1st collage.
The idea of this collage was that the shapes could overlap the bricks and each other, to create a pattern. I did this by getting a background photo of a brick wall, and I cut out circle shapes from photograms and put them on the brick to make my image.
WWW: I liked the I overlapped the circles to make a pattern.
EBI: If I had more shapes to use to finish the image. This would have made it a better collage.

Dafna talmor research.
In this image you can see many lines and shapes and its hard to see where they end or start. The shapes also have many different textures. Specifically in this image you can see some beach like features like sand and something that looks like an ocean.
What I like about this image is the different textures the sand has and how is changes colour, I thought that was creative because the photo has many focuses now and its not just a plain photo at the beach or anything.
I think the artist chose this location because its different to pictures like builds or the sky, its also more of unique location. Something that stands out in this photo is the black outlines that make the shapes, I think that is interesting because it makes good composition.

Constructed Landscapes transforms colour negatives of landscapes initially taken as mere keepsakes through the act of slicing and splicing. The resulting photographs allude to an imaginary place, idealised spaces or as Foucault states, “a virtual space that opens up behind the surface”.
Homework
This homework was to take 30 photos. I decided to take these photos because i wanted to try something new and not do what i always do. I think for the first time of trying a different style of photos i did alright because they all turnt out different and i think that’s what’s good about them. I took inspiration lots of photographers and how they make their abstract photos. In my opinion to improve these photos i would make sure they have a better quality, and what went well with these is that they are kind of abstract and they all provide different qualities that attract people.
dafna talmor workshop.
I made these images from cutting out different negatives and sticking them together and to be honest they kind of worked and came out really nice because they looked abstracted. I like the themes and the colours I used because they give lots of attention to the image as a whole. The resources I used to make these photos were:
-35mm slides
-cutting mats
-scalpels
-tape
-scissors
-tape
-negative images.
In making these images you have to be persistent and optimistic because sometimes the images won't come out right or
it might not be going your way so you'll have to pull through and keep on trying it. What I learnt is that if you take your time you will go a long way. To me the thing that makes these abstract is that they don't have a main focus because theres many things going on in each photo. What I found difficult is that they didn't come out right and the process in making them was frustrating at times because you could have just the right image but it might not fit into the 35 mm slide. The type of decisions I made was deciding what photos to use and what to cut and where to stick. The Tallis habits I used were imaginative and inquisitive because I was asking loads of questions about the work and I was going outside the box and thinking hard.

Five characteristics that define Leiter's photographs
-they all use outbursts of colours e.g bright, dark
-they use lines e.g. straight, squiggly, continuous
-they are abstract as you cannot tell exactly what they are
-they are the same textures e.g. light, mixed, dark
-they have tones and they are vibrant
The similarities that Leiter uses is texture because in his photos they all look similar.

I chose this imagine because it has two different sides and the picture is of one object but in the reflection you can see many different objects. Something that is unusual about this photo is that it looks like many different little pictures all in one big image. In this photo I think that focus is important because it looks kind of out of focus but you can still clearly see what the objects are. I think this photo is important because it shows that even if you mean to take a photo of one specific image you might see other subjects to your main focus. Saul Leiters images are abstract because you they are different to what they actually seem and you don't quite know what they are.
"Photography is about finding things. And painting is different - it's about making something." - Saul Leiter
I chose this quote because in photography you find out about things you didn't know you could do in arts, also you make a lot of things yourself from scratch.

These images relate to some of Saul Leiter's because they involve in colour and some of them have lots of different textures and they also have lots of different things going on in the images. Taking these images I tried to focus on the formal elements like colour, tones and texture. Next time I take photos I will try to improve on the quality and take a wider range of photos with different things.

Bill ARMSTRONG
I was drawn to these photos due to the profound effect that the colour has on these images. They remind me of a heat map with all the blurred colours but they all fit together like a puzzle. Bill Armstrong intentionally worked by making blurred images, and you can see this in the 4 images. Another thing i liked was that the images are kind of vague but you can tell that they are pictures of people doing something.
John batho
John Batho made sort of unusual ghostly/supernatural images. The images look like they are taken through a foggy window with people standing on the other side. What i likes about these is that they are strange, not like any other photo i’ve seen, in all honesty these are kind of frightening. I think that the images are scary already but the fact that it is colourless adds more of a ghostly, emotionless effect.
Ray metzker
These images all look the same but they are used with different techniques as in; the body of the photos and the structure, they look emotionless and dull because they are in black and white and there doesn’t look like much is going on but, they stand out due to the fact that it’s different and sort of obscured. I like these images because they have different tones and textures and it shares and equal balance of light and dark.
Ernst haas
These images pop out because they have an eruption of colour in different areas. I like the photo in the top right because of the composition and the way the colour is shared out. The photo in the bottom right is the perfect example of an eruption of colour and it gives the expression of a burst happiness. The photo in the top left represents some sort of assemble, they look like tall buildings in colours, with little bits falling off. In the bottom left like the way the photo was taken and the angle because it gives you more things to see and more of a focus to the image, that stands out because if there’s more things going on it attracts attention.
